Assam Police Search Pawan Khera’s Delhi Residence, Recover Documents Amid Row with CM Sarma
by Northlines · NorthlinesNew Delhi, Apr 7: A team of Assam Police, assisted by Delhi Police, on Tuesday searched the Nizamuddin East residence of Congress leader Pawan Khera in connection with a case linked to his allegations against Himanta Biswa Sarma’s family.
Khera, however, was not present at his residence during the search, as he is currently in Hyderabad, party sources said. Police officials stated that some “objectionable documents” were recovered during the operation.
The action follows an FIR filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, wife of the Assam Chief Minister, after Khera alleged in a recent press conference that she possessed multiple passports and that the family held substantial business interests in the United States.
Reacting to the development, Sarma claimed that Khera had “run away” from Guwahati and said that the law would take its course. He has also indicated plans to file a defamation case against the Congress leader.
The political row has intensified ahead of the upcoming elections in Assam, scheduled for April 9, with counting set for May 4.
Since the controversy erupted, Sarma—who joined the BJP in 2015 after leaving the Congress—has repeatedly targeted Khera, escalating tensions between the two sides. (Agencies)
