Bharat Bound by Oneness, Unity Beyond Geography: PM Modi
by Northlines · NorthlinesNEW DELHI, May 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said every part of Bharat is sacred and bound together by a deep sense of oneness that transcends geography, asserting that this spirit of unity remains highly relevant in a world marked by divisions.
In a signed article marking 75 years since the reopening of the restored Somnath Temple, Modi said the sacrifices of those who protected and rebuilt the shrine in Gujarat will never be forgotten.
He emphasised that Somnath stands as a symbol of enduring unity and shared civilisational consciousness, noting that people from across the country contributed to restoring its glory.
Highlighting the occasion, the Prime Minister announced that special pujas will be held at Somnath for the next 1,000 days as a tribute to its legacy, and urged citizens to visit the temple during this period.
He said visitors would experience India’s unconquerable spirit and the continuity of a civilisation that has withstood repeated challenges yet remained unbroken.
Recalling his visit earlier this year for the Somnath Swabhiman Parv marking 1,000 years since the first attack on the temple, Modi said he would return on May 11 to commemorate 75 years since its inauguration by then President Rajendra Prasad.
Describing Somnath as a symbol of resilience, he said its history reflects the ability to rise again despite adversity, with its message of strength and dignity resonating across generations.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to historical figures, rulers, and spiritual leaders who contributed to the temple’s protection, reconstruction, and preservation over centuries.
He recalled Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s role in initiating the reconstruction of the temple after Independence, supported by K M Munshi and others, and noted that Rajendra Prasad inaugurated the restored shrine in 1951 despite opposition at the time.
Modi said the government’s focus on developing spiritual centres while preserving heritage reflects the principle of “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi”, citing efforts from Somnath to Kashi, Kedarnath, Ayodhya, and other sites.
He added that improved infrastructure and connectivity to such centres have boosted local economies, strengthened livelihoods, and reinforced the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat”. (Agencies)
