Several Feared Trapped As Building Collapses In Delhi’s Satya Niketan

NEW DELHI: Several students are feared trapped after a building collapsed in the Satya Niketan area of Delhi on Sunday afternoon, prompting a major rescue operation by the Delhi Fire Services and other emergency agencies.

The Delhi Fire Services received a call about the building collapse at around 1.33 pm. Rescue teams reached the spot around 1.50 pm and immediately launched search operations.

Multiple teams, including Search and Rescue, Breathing Apparatus and Water Bowser units, have been deployed at the site to locate and rescue those trapped under the rubble.

BJP MLA from RK Puram Anil Kumar Sharma, who was present at the site, said several students staying in a paying guest accommodation were feared trapped inside the collapsed building.

“This is an extremely tragic incident—nothing could be more heartbreaking than this. Our children who come from various regions to study here and were residing in a PG accommodation… a building has collapsed,” Sharma said.

He said two students had been pulled out and shifted to hospital by disaster management personnel, MCD teams and police.

“Other children remain trapped inside; in fact, some of them are even placing phone calls from beneath the rubble. It appears that several children are still trapped,” he said, adding that rescue efforts were continuing.

Sharma said the Chief Minister had directed the full emergency response team to reach the site, while MP Harsh Malhotra was in constant contact with officials.

“The entire administration is deeply concerned and closely monitoring the situation. Our foremost and immediate priority is to rescue the children by all possible means,” he said.

Rescue operations remain underway as emergency personnel continue searching the debris for survivors. (Agencies)
