Three Air India Aircraft Damaged by Ground Equipment During Storm at Delhi Airport
by Northlines · NorthlinesNew Delhi, June 8: Three Air India narrowbody aircraft parked at Terminal 2 of Delhi International Airport were damaged after ground support equipment was blown into them during strong winds and heavy rain, airport authorities said.
The incident occurred on Saturday when sudden adverse weather conditions caused ground equipment belonging to Air India Engineering and IndiGo to shift from its position and collide with the parked aircraft.
Following the incident, all three aircraft were withdrawn from service for inspection and repairs, the airport operator said.
According to airport authorities, the Air Traffic Control (ATC) had not issued any warning regarding a change in weather conditions to either the airport operator or the airlines before the storm struck.
While Air India declined to comment on the incident, an airline source said aircraft belonging to other operators were also affected by the severe weather.
The source added that two of the three damaged Air India aircraft are expected to return to service shortly, while repairs to the third aircraft may take longer.
Authorities are assessing the damage caused by the incident, which occurred amid sudden rain and strong winds at the airport. (Agencies)
