Srinagar, Nov 20: Srinagar has recorded its first sub-zero temperature of the season, dropping to a chilly -0.7°C. The cold snap has extended across the region, with Shopian recording an even colder -3.9°C and Pahalgam dipping to -3.7°C, according to the Meteorological Centre Srinagar.
As winter sets in, authorities have ramped up efforts to ensure steady power and heating supplies to counter the harsh conditions. Recent days have seen significant drops in minimum temperatures across various stations in the Kashmir division, with a few areas in the Jammu division also experiencing colder weather.
The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast for the coming days: From November 20–23, the weather is expected to remain generally dry across Jammu and Kashmir. However, light rain and snow are anticipated in the higher reaches of Kashmir and some isolated areas in the Jammu Division from the late hours of November 23 through the morning of November 24. After that, dry conditions are expected to persist until November 30.
Authorities have cautioned travelers to plan their journeys carefully, especially with the expected light rain and snow on November 24. Those heading to high-altitude areas are advised to equip themselves with proper winter gear and follow local advisories.
