J&K: 10 Soldiers Killed as Army Vehicle Plunges Into Gorge in Doda
by Northlines · NorthlinesJammu: Ten Army soldiers were killed and 10 others injured after a military vehicle plunged into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, officials said on Thursday.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha confirmed the deaths and expressed deep condolences to the families of the soldiers who lost their lives in the accident. “Deeply saddened at the loss of lives of 10 of our brave Indian Army soldiers in an unfortunate road accident in Doda. We will always remember the outstanding service and supreme sacrifice of our brave soldiers. My deepest condolences to the grieving families,” Sinha said in a post on X.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved families, the Lieutenant Governor said the entire nation stands united with them in this moment of grief. He added that 10 injured soldiers were airlifted to hospital and senior officials have been directed to ensure the best possible medical treatment. He also prayed for their speedy recovery.
The accident occurred at Khanni Top along the Bhaderwah–Chamba interstate road when a bullet-proof Army vehicle carrying 17 personnel was heading towards a high-altitude post. According to officials cited by PTI, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which plunged nearly 200 feet into the gorge.
A joint rescue operation by the Army and police was immediately launched at the site. Initially, four soldiers were found dead, while several others were rescued in an injured condition. Some of the critically injured personnel were airlifted to the military hospital in Udhampur for specialised treatment. (Agencies)
