FOLLOWING the election of a new Constable in St Saviour, incumbent Kevin Lewis acknowledged that “it is very hard to say goodbye” after serving the parish for more than two decades.

Initially elected in 2005, Mr Lewis served as a Deputy until 2022 before spending the last four years as Constable.

He had sought to continue in the latter position but was ousted by political newcomer Dave Curtis, who has held a number of roles in the honorary police.

Mr Curtis secured 1,295 votes, followed by Suzanne Webb (1,031 votes) and Mr Lewis (879 votes).

Speaking to the JEP yesterday, Mr Lewis acknowledged that “it’s very hard to say goodbye”.

He continued: “I can’t say I’m not disappointed, because I wanted another four years to finish off all my major projects.

“I had about 11 projects in mind and several of them were already under way.”

Mr Lewis pointed to plans for a family park and a car park behind St Saviour’s Parish Hall and also noted that he had “reclaimed” recreation grounds next to St Saviour’s Church “for the benefit of parishioners”.

“Also I was working on allotments for parishioners and obviously more play areas for children.”

Reflecting on this year’s election campaign, he added that: “Everybody started campaigning last year, which obviously I can’t do because I’m at my desk and I’m doing my job – but that’s politics.”

Mr Lewis’s 21 years in the States Assembly also includes time as Infrastructure Minister and as a member of the Planning Committee, among other responsibilities.
