FAMILIES are being encouraged to pick up a book and head outdoors as part of a series of free reading events aiming to make literature fun and accessible during the summer holidays.
The Big Jersey Read sessions will take place every Wednesday from 1 July to 12 August at Marina Gardens, overlooking the Waterfront.
Visitors can bring their own books, settle down on the grass and enjoy a relaxed lunchtime read. There will also be free books available to borrow, swap or take home.
The Big Jersey Read is being supported by the charity Every Child Our Future, which works to help children and young people reach their potential.
Organisers hope the events will encourage more people to discover the joy of reading and spend time together outdoors.
The reading sessions are part of a wider programme of free summer activities at the Waterfront, including yoga, Pilates and live music events. No booking is required, meaning families can simply turn up and join in.
The events are designed to make public spaces more welcoming and give Islanders affordable ways to stay active, socialise and enjoy the summer.
More information about the free events can be found online.
