The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 won't fix the worst element of the Z Flip 7
by Mark Jansen · Android PoliceWhen updates arrive yearly, it's fine for some new devices to not try and reinvent the wheel. However, we do prefer it when supposed upgrades tune up those areas which were lacking in predecessors. That may not be the case with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8, however, as sources claim it will include the same 25W charging rate as the Z Flip 7 (via SamMobile).
Those same sources also claim the new model will have the same sized battery, which leads us to hope Samsung is pushing innovation in other areas.
The Z Flip 8 will not be included in the charging speed revolution
This news comes from the Naver blog of a Korean leaker, who alleges that the previously leaked rumors about battery size had been confirmed, but also, so had the Z Flip 8's charging speed.
According to this, which is claimed to come from a "related company", the Z Flip 8 will sport the same 25W charging rate that the range has been using since the Z Flip 4 in 2022.
While 25W isn't the slowest charging speed by any means, it's certainly become an outdated spec to be lugging around in a flagship phone in 2026. So, when leakers begin claiming that Samsung will be including a 25W wired charging speed in the Z Flip 8, it's hard not to feel disappointed.
It's especially disappointing when Samsung is adding faster charging to similarly priced flagship phones. The Galaxy S26 Plus got an upgrade to 45W charging, and the Z Fold 8 is also rumored to get a charging bump. But sadly for the Z Flip 8, it's being left with 25W, like the standard Galaxy S26.
The other news is the claimed confirmation of a 4,300mAh battery, the same size as the cell in the Z Flip 7. This is less of a disappointment, as Samsung may be pulling some magical trickery to eke more performance out of the same battery, but it still shows that Samsung isn't ready to sling more serious upgrades into its most premium phone range.
It's certainly not the news Flip fans wanted, but the good news is we still have some time to go before the new foldables are expected to be revealed in the Summer of 2026. As such, it's entirely possible Samsung has some tricks up its sleeves to make the newest generation of Z Flip a bit more attractive.
