Google Wallet passes just got a visual overhaul, and it's rolling out to everyone now

The Google Wallet passes redesign has been discussed for quite some time, and I've been excited about it since I first got to check it out. While retailers and partners have had plenty of time with the feature, it looks like it's now rolling out to all users, according to 9to5Google.

It's the smallest touches that matter

While it doesn't bring a whole lot when it comes to functionality, the new visual update will make things look miles better from the previous iteration. This visual upgrade works with loyalty cards, passes, and items that were created manually by the user.

Perhaps one of the first big changes that you'll notice is that the backgrounds have now expanded to take up the entire screen. This adds a notable pop of color and really highlights the brand's presence for the pass that you're using.

In addition, the new change moves the pass logo to the top center, giving you a clean indication of what pass or card you're using at the moment. 9to5Google also states the pass will show other available data toward the bottom, making it easier to access the details that matter.

The good news is that if you don't like the flashier design, you can always revert it back to the old UI by just tapping the clock icon in the upper right-hand corner.

We don't think many will go back to the older design, but if you want to because it's more familiar, it's an option. And although it might not be necessary, we think it's worth looking into if you're a Wallet user.

Google has made other improvements to the app, making the items you have stored easier to access. It's also introduced ways to help travelers move through TSA checkpoints faster. While credit and debit cards are a given when using Google Wallet, I've known a lot of people who still haven't explored the app's full potential.

You can store almost any piece of data in Wallet by creating your own custom passes. They can come in handy because once the data is stored, you no longer need an internet connection to retrieve the data. Use it for tickets, train passes, special events, concerts, or just make something of your own. So leave those PDF printouts at home and put a little faith into Google Wallet.
