Amazon's new Android tablets pack serious power and the Google Play Store

Amazon just introduced its new Alexa Tablets, and they're pretty exciting. The lineup includes three models: the Alexa Tablet 8, Tablet 11, and Tablet 12 Pro. They run Android, use Alexa+, and use the Google Play Store for apps. That last point is probably the biggest news, since the brand's previous Android tablets relied on Amazon's own App Store, which wasn't all that great, to be honest.

A new chapter for Amazon tablets

Amazon is clearly making a statement with its Alexa Tablets, positioning these models as its higher-end offerings. Before we even get to the internal components and specifications, the outer case is made from aluminum. That's quite a departure from previous models that all relied on plastic.

The Alexa Tablet 8 is the base model, featuring an 8.7-inch screen with a resolution of 1340 x 800 (180 PPI) and powered by a MediaTek 8189 8-core chip that can reach up to 2GHz. The tablet can be configured with 4GB or 8GB of RAM.

This configuration will be dependent on the storage size you choose, with the 64GB variant featuring 4GB of RAM and the 128GB of storage coming with 8GB of RAM. The Alexa Tablet 8 starts at $229.99 and comes in Graphite, Rosette, and Teal.

The Tablet 11 also uses the same MediaTek 8189 chip as the Tablet 8, but it features a larger, sharper 11-inch 2.5K screen with a 90Hz refresh rate. It only comes with one RAM configuration, which is 8GB, but there is the option to choose your storage size, with 64GB or 128GB storage options.

The Tablet 11 has a starting price of $329.99 and comes in Graphite, Amethyst, and Matcha. The Alexa Tablet 12 Pro will be the most expensive option, starting at $499.99. This model features a large 12-inch 120Hz screen that comes in the standard variant or Nanomatte display with anti-glare.

The tablet is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8400 chip that is paired with 8GB or 16GB of RAM, depending on the storage size that you choose. The 128GB model will come with 8GB of RAM, while the 256GB storage model will get a boost to 16GB of RAM.

The tablet is meant to provide an excellent entertainment experience with quad speakers. But it can also be used for work too. For the Tablet 12 Pro, Amazon is offering two accessories with the Alexa Tablet Pro Pen and Alexa Tablet Pro Keyboard.

The Tablet Pro Pen is a "USI 2.0 active pen with 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity, tilt detection, magnetic docking, and wireless charging." The Pro Keyboard attaches to the tablet magnetically and instantly starts working.

You can head to Amazon to purchase all three tablets today, with the products being shipped out on October 14, 2026 in the United States. You can also order the tablet in other regions, like Canada and Mexico.

The tablet will also be available in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain, with shipments expected for October 19, 2026. We've been waiting for Amazon to get serious about its tablets and this year it's finally happening.
