Athletic Club forward Nico Williams has backed Spain to shine at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, taking inspiration from their 2024 European Championship success.

The young attacker with Ghanaian roots was part of the Spain squad that conquered Europe two years ago, defeating England 2-1 in the finals to win the Euros.

Now part of the Spain squad heading to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Nico Williams is confident Spain can perform at the top level and replicate the same success.

“I think we have a great team; we have proven that on more than one occasion. We know how to play and what we want to achieve. We have a great coach, and I am confident that the football we played in the Euros we will play again in the World Cup,” the forward told El Chiringuito.

Nico Williams, 23, is currently injured ahead of the commencement of the World Cup on June 11.

While he races against time to be fit in time, he will likely miss Spain’s opener against Cape Verde on June 15.

He, however, has a good chance of making a full recovery for the Group H matches against Saudi Arabia and Uruguay on June 21 and June 27.
