Mainz sporting director Niko Bungert backs Ransford Königsdörffer to strengthen attack
· GhanaSoccernetMainz sporting director Niko Bungert believes Ghana international Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer will add pace, power and consistency to the club’s attack following his move from Hamburger SV.
The 24-year-old striker completed his transfer after an impressive campaign in the Bundesliga, where he made 33 appearances and scored five goals for Hamburg.
Königsdörffer also arrives with strong experience from the 2. Bundesliga, having scored 29 goals in 130 appearances for Hamburg and Dynamo Dresden.
Speaking after confirming the signing, Bungert praised the forward’s development and reliability over recent seasons.
“Ransford Königsdörffer is a fast and physical striker whose style of play will fit very well into our attack,” Bungert said.
“He has been on the pitch in almost every competitive match in recent seasons and has developed into a regular Bundesliga player. At 24, Ransford is at an excellent age, and we are very happy that we were able to convince him to take the next steps in his career with us at Mainz.”
Königsdörffer has played at least 30 matches in each of the past five seasons across all competitions.
