South Africa striker Lyle Foster remains confident that Bafana Bafana can still secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, urging fans to stay positive and back the team ahead of their decisive clash with Rwanda.

The match, scheduled for Tuesday, October 14, at 16:00 GMT, will be South Africa’s final fixture in the qualification series—one that could define their World Cup dream.

To book a spot at next year’s global showpiece, South Africa must defeat Rwanda and also hope that Nigeria overcome Benin in the other group game. All three teams remain in contention for the group’s single automatic qualification slot.

Foster, speaking to SuperSport, called on fans to maintain belief despite the recent setbacks. “There’s no reason to feel despondent. If there’s nothing to play for or there’s no chance, I’d understand—but there’s still so much to play for,” he said.

Bafana Bafana were dealt a major blow after FIFA deducted three points and three goals from their tally for fielding an ineligible player against Lesotho. That ruling left their qualification hopes hanging by a thread.

Despite a frustrating goalless draw with Zimbabwe in their previous game, Foster insists the team’s spirit remains strong under head coach Hugo Broos.

“I think this is probably the most important one, so we ask the supporters to come out in their numbers,” the Burnley forward added.

Bafana Bafana will be counting on home pride, determination, and fan support to keep their 2026 World Cup dream alive when they face Rwanda.
