Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku says the appointment of Asamoah Gyan as ambassador for Ghana’s national teams represents a move to reconnect Ghana football with one of its greatest symbols.

The GFA president made the remarks during Gyan’s unveiling ceremony at the Pelican Hotel in Accra on Wednesday night.

“Tonight, as we officially unveil Asamoah Gyan as Ambassador of the Ghana Football Association for our National Teams, particularly the Black Stars and Colts Football, we are not simply appointing a former player,” Okraku said.

“We are embracing legacy. We are institutionalising inspiration. We are reconnecting our future with one of the greatest symbols of our football heritage.”

Okraku described Gyan as an icon whose influence continues to inspire generations of footballers and supporters across the country.

The former Black Stars captain will now lead promotional campaigns and fan engagement activities ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup while also supporting Colts football development in Ghana.
