Montreal CF forward Prince Osei Owusu has broken his silence following his omission from the Ghana squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

The German-born forward has been in blistering form in the MLS this season, scoring 9 goals and adding six assists in 14 matches.

But Owusu was left out of the team for the tournament to be hosted in Canada, Mexico and USA.

Owusu completed his nationality switch in 2025 and made his Black Stars debut during the Kirin Cup tournament against Japan and South Korea.

"Sometimes life doesn’t unfold the way we hope, and this is one of those moments for me," he posted on Instagram.

"Of course, I am disappointed not to be part of Ghana’s squad for the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Representing the country of my parents and wearing the Ghanaian colors on the biggest stage in football was a dream I truly wanted to live. I would have given everything for the people of Ghana and for everyone who has supported me throughout this journey," he added.

"At the same time, I believe that God has a plan for every step of our lives. His timing and His path are greater than my own understanding, and I trust that everything happens for a reason."

Despite the disappointment, Owusu has accepted his fate and admitted he will be supporting the Black Stars.

He continued: "Today, I choose gratitude. I am grateful for how far God has brought me in my career, for every challenge, every lesson, every teammate, coach, supporter, and family member who has helped me along the way. None of this is taken for granted.

"I want to wish the Black Stars the very best at the World Cup. I will be supporting the team and my country with pride. As for me, I will keep working hard, stay focused, and use this time as motivation. After the World Cup break, I will give everything for my club and continue pushing to achieve both my personal goals and the goals of the team. God’s plan is always greater than our own. The journey continues. Thank you all for your support. Your Prince."

The Black Stars will travel to the United States on Wednesday to continue preparations ahead of their World Cup adventure.

Ghana will face Panama in Toronto in their opening Group L match before facing England and Croatia.
