Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has become Ghana's all-time appearance record holder after starting the game against Panama in Toronto on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

The 34-year-old surpassed his senior brother Andre Ayew by making his 121st appearance for the senior national team. He tied his brother's record during the international friendly against Wales in Cardiff early this month.

Ayew has also scored 34 goals for the Black Stars and leads the team for the first time to a major tournament as captain at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The experienced attacker is still chasing his first World Cup goal following his third tournament, having featured at the 2014, 2022 and now 2026 editions.

Ayew scored seven goals during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and added seven assists to inspire the West Africans to their fifth tournament.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars will be hoping to get off to a positive start at the World Cup by beating Panama before facing England and Croatia in subsequent matches.
