Asante Kotoko striker Albert Amoah has stressed that the squad remains fully focused on securing a positive result against arch-rivals Hearts of Oak, despite a turbulent week at the club.

The Porcupine Warriors will welcome Hearts of Oak to the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday for the latest edition of the Super Clash, as part of Matchday 22 of the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

Kotoko go into the high-profile fixture still reeling from their exit from the FA Cup, where they were knocked out by Aduana FC on penalties following a 4–2 shootout defeat in the Round of 16.

The loss triggered the resignation of head coach Karim Zito, bringing an abrupt end to his tenure.

The club has since moved quickly to steady the ship, appointing Prince Yaw Owusu as interim head coach, with Hamza Obeng named as his assistant.

Speaking in an interview with Kessben FM, Amoah dismissed suggestions of dressing-room unrest and insisted that the players never sought Zito’s departure.

"No player wanted Karim Zito out before he resigned. Such speculations should be disregarded," the striker said.

Amoah added that the team’s attention has now shifted entirely to the Super Clash, viewing the encounter as an opportunity to respond on the pitch.

"We were actually looking forward to using Sunday’s game against Hearts of Oak to make things right, but what happened happened," he said.

Sunday’s eagerly awaited showdown is set to kick off at 17:00 GMT.
