'I have to give my best in my club' – Maxwell Woledzi taking steps to earn Black Stars invite
· GhanaSoccernetNashville SC defender Maxwell Woledzi has outlined his clear pathway to achieving a lifelong dream: earning a call-up to the Ghanaian national team.
The 24-year-old, who recently completed a move from Norwegian club Fredrikstad FK to Major League Soccer, says his focus is now firmly on club performance to attract the attention of Black Stars selectors.
In an exclusive interview, Woledzi confirmed that representing Ghana has been a constant ambition since his early days in European football. "I’ve been wanting to play for the Black Stars since I was in Nordsjaelland, so it’s not something new," he revealed. However, he recognizes that desire alone is not enough, stating a pragmatic approach to his goal: "I just have to make sure that in my club I give my best and do what I have to do for the people in charge to see who I am."
Woledzi, a product of the Right to Dream Academy, understands the profound significance of national team duty. "Everyone is hoping to play for the national team, and if you play for the national team, it is a proud moment for you and your family," he said, acknowledging the honor that comes with the Black Stars jersey.
His declaration comes at a pivotal moment, both for his career and for Ghanaian football. The Black Stars are preparing for a challenging 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign in Group L against England, Croatia, and Panama.
Woledzi's impressive form, which culminated in being named Fredrikstad FK's Player of the Year before his transfer to Nashville, establishes him as a promising talent who could bolster the national team's defensive options in the future, provided he continues to excel in the MLS.
