2026 World Cup: Black Stars to receive $100,000 appearance fee – Sports Minister Kofi Adams confirms
· GhanaSoccernetThe Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has announced that each member of Ghana’s Black Stars squad will earn an appearance fee of $100,000 for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana are set to compete at the 23rd edition of the tournament, which will be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico this summer.
Speaking on TV3, Mr Adams confirmed the financial package approved for players representing the country at football’s biggest stage.
“The appearance fee for the Black Stars players has been pegged at $100,000 per player,” he stated.
The announcement comes as government awaits the release of a GH¢150 million World Cup budget from the Ministry of Finance to support Ghana’s full participation in the tournament.
The Black Stars are currently in Cardiff as preparations intensify. The team will test their readiness in a friendly against Wales on June 2, with the final 26-man squad expected to be named on June 1.
Mr Adams expressed optimism ahead of the tournament, calling for national support behind the team.
“All I want is the spirit of the nation behind the team,” he said.
Ghana will be making their fifth World Cup appearance and have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
The Black Stars begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field, before facing England at Gillette Stadium on June 23. They will wrap up their group matches against Croatia on June 27.
The team will be hoping to progress beyond the group stage for the first time since their historic quarter-final run in 2010.
