Kim Lars encouraged by Black Queens’ progress ahead of 2026 WAFCON
· GhanaSoccernetBlack Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has expressed satisfaction with the team's progress and positive atmosphere during their training camp in Ghana as preparations continue for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Speaking to GFA Communications, the Swedish trainer praised the energy within the squad and highlighted the importance of holding camp in Ghana as the team builds towards the continental tournament.
According to Lars, the current group is in a much stronger position than they were a year ago, with a clearer understanding of their strengths and areas that require improvement.
"I think the energy is great in the team and like I said I think I'm happy that we had this chance to be in Ghana now. Of course we talking more and more often about the WAFCON. think before the previous tournament we wasn't sure where we were standing. Now, we know how good we are and how good we can be," he said
"We know what areas we need to improve, and if we do that, we can probably go, let's say all that they had opportunity at least to go all the way. Yeah, I think this camp have been important, like I said, to look at the small details, to come together as a group. We have been rotating the squad, pretty heavily.
"All of the players, that we had in this camp have actually played, which is not so normal coming that you can do that, to prepare, and start to talk about the upcoming WAFCON. If I compare with 1 year ago, we didn't know exactly where we were standing. Now, we know our level, we know that we have the potential to beat all of the teams in Africa,"
