GHS150m allocated for Ghana's 2026 World Cup campaign still pending release
· GhanaSoccernetThe GH¢150 million allocated for Ghana's participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup has not yet been released by the Ministry of Finance, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has revealed.
Speaking on TV3, Adams said the funds are still going through the necessary government approval processes despite the Black Stars entering the final phase of preparations for the tournament.
"We are waiting on the Ministry of Finance to release the GH¢150 million allocation for the World Cup after it goes through all the processes," Adams said.
The disclosure comes with Ghana less than three weeks away from their opening match at the tournament, which will be hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States.
The Black Stars are currently in Cardiff, Wales, where coach Carlos Queiroz is overseeing a pre-World Cup training camp. The team is scheduled to face Wales in an international friendly on June 2 before heading to North America.
A 28-man squad is presently in camp, although two players will be dropped before Ghana submits its final 26-man squad for the tournament.
Despite the delay in the release of the funds, Adams expressed confidence in the team's prospects.
"We are not going there as mere participants, but we are going there as a team that is equally capable of winning, whether people believe it or not," he said.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama in Toronto on June 17 before facing England and Croatia in their remaining group matches.
