2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Otto Addo confident Black Stars will bounce back against Mali at home

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo is convinced that playing at home against Mali will be much easier for his team compared to the game against Chad.

In the Matchday 7 games in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Ghana were held to a 1-1 draw against Chad in N'Djamena last Thursday.

However, Addo and his charges will host the Eagles of Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium today, September 8, in the Matchday 8 games in the qualifiers.

Speaking ahead of the game, the gaffer is confident the supporters will see the team differently from their last outing three days ago.

“Everybody was very disappointed after the draw in Chad. The expectation was high for us to win. We were disappointed, we analysed the game very well and hoped that we would learn out of this,” he said.

“I’m very sure we will show another phase in Accra; it’s easier to play at home with our spectators supporting us, pushing the last percentages out of the body of the players to play in the evening on grass. I expect different phases of the players.

“I hope we learned from the mistakes we did against Chad. The good thing is that we still have it in our own hands," he added.

With Comoros beating Central African Republic to close the point gap to just one, the Black Stars must win to extend their lead at the top of Group I.

Kick off for the game is scheduled at 19:00 GMT.
