Benedicte Simon sends powerful message to young girls: "Just play"

New Black Queens defender Benedicte Simon has delivered a stirring and motivational message to young girls aspiring to build careers in football, urging them to shut out negativity and remain committed to their dreams.

The French-born Ghanaian, who has joined the Black Queens camp for the first time, opened up about her personality and football journey, encouraging young girls to believe in themselves regardless of societal expectations.

The 28-year-old is in contention for her very first international debut for Ghana when the Black Queens take on European champions England's Lionesses on Tuesday, December 2, at the St. Mary's Stadium.

Simon reveals she is cheerful yet slightly reserved:

“I’m a nice girl. I can dance; I smile with everyone. I’m a little shy too,” she said.

Her message to young girls was bold, empowering and straight to the point:

“If you love football, just play. Don’t listen to people who say you’re not good enough or that girls can’t play. Focus on your goals and go straight to them.”

Now settling into the national team environment, Simon hopes her presence and experience will inspire the next generation of female footballers in Ghana and beyond.
