It was very important we strengthened defensive midfield area - Kotoko boss Karim Zito
· GhanaSoccernetAsante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito says strengthening the defensive midfield was a top priority for the club, following the signing of Prince Badu, as the Kumasi-based giants look to consolidate and improve their position in the Ghana Premier League.
Kotoko officially announced the acquisition of Badu on Wednesday, confirming that the midfielder has signed a three-year contract after completing his move from fellow Premier League side Nations FC.
The signing comes as part of Kotoko’s mid-season efforts to address key areas of the squad identified by the technical team.
Speaking to AKSC Media, Zito explained that the lack of depth in defensive midfield influenced the club’s decision to move quickly for Badu.
“We felt it was very important to strengthen the defensive midfield area. At the moment, we have only one natural defensive midfielder, and we also have to carefully manage the minutes of Lawson Manu, who is still a young player,” he said.
Badu is expected to provide stability and competition in midfield as Kotoko push to maintain their place in the top three and mount a stronger challenge as the season progresses.
The midfielder made a positive impression in the first round of the league, scoring one goal for Nations FC.
