Gold Fields sponsorship hailed as major boost for football development in Ghana
· GhanaSoccernetGhana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has praised Gold Fields Ghana Limited for its continued investment and support for football development in the country.
The mining company on Friday announced a US$5 million sponsorship agreement with the GFA over a two-year period, becoming an Official Partner of Ghana football.
The sponsorship package will provide support for the Black Stars, Black Queens, Women’s Premier League and the Black Challenge team.
Speaking at the ceremony in Accra, Simeon-Okraku commended Gold Fields for its long-standing contributions to football and infrastructure development, particularly in Tarkwa and surrounding communities.
“Your contributions to infrastructure development, particularly the construction and modernisation of the iconic Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium, stand as enduring evidence of your commitment to sports and community development in Ghana,” he said.
The GFA president also acknowledged the company’s role in supporting domestic football and creating opportunities for communities through sports.
The latest sponsorship is expected to strengthen women’s football development and promote inclusivity through support for para-sports in Ghana.
