Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi believes careful preparation, intense training and attention to nutrition played an important role in the Black Stars' opening World Cup victory over Panama.

The Manchester United target scored the only goal of the game in stoppage time but said the foundations for the win had been laid long before kick-off.

"We do a lot of training with a lot of intensity," he said.

"It's not just me, it's everyone helping each other."

The midfielder also praised Ghana's backroom staff after the players benefited from the hydration break during the match.

"We have a great nutritionist giving us all the best insights on taking the right nutrients. We listened and trusted him, and I think it helped very much."

Looking ahead to England, Yirenkyi said Ghana would not get carried away by their winning start.

"We are just doing what we can do best every day. Learn from each other, learn from the coach and the people around us. We take it day by day. We don't think too far ahead, we just work."

Ghana face England on Tuesday knowing another positive result would move them closer to a place in the World Cup knockout stages.
