Nine players arrive as Black Stars open camp in Wales ahead of World Cup warm-up
· GhanaSoccernetBlack Stars have begun preparations for their pre-World Cup friendly against Wales, with nine players already reporting to camp in Cardiff.
Among the early arrivals are captain Jordan Ayew, goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Gideon Mensah, Jerome Opoku, Marvin Senaya and Alidu Seidu, who were seen in a video circulating on social media on Sunday.
With most European leagues having concluded their seasons, more players are expected to join camp in the coming days as Ghana step up preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Head coach Carlos Queiroz is yet to officially announce his squad for both the Wales friendly and the World Cup. However, GFA president Kurt Okraku has indicated that the final squad list will be unveiled on June 1.
The friendly against Wales on June 2 will offer Queiroz an important opportunity to assess his options before the tournament begins in North America.
Ghana head into camp under new leadership after a poor run of results led to Otto Addo's departure. Queiroz was appointed only months before the World Cup and faces the task of rebuilding confidence and momentum ahead of the tournament.
The Portuguese coach has already made it clear that only "deserving players" will be selected, ensuring fierce competition for places in the final squad.
Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama and will be aiming to reach the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time since their historic run to the quarter-finals in South Africa in 2010.
