2026 World Cup: Black Stars will make Ghanaians proud - GFA boss Kurt Okraku assures
· GhanaSoccernetPresident of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has expressed confidence that the Black Stars will make the nation proud at the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer.
After missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Ghana bounced back emphatically by qualifying for the World Cup as group winners with 25 points. The team has been drawn into Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
Speaking to Asaase Radio, Okraku emphasized that with the prayers and support of Ghanaians, the team can achieve success on football’s biggest stage.
"With prayers behind this team, they will make Ghanaians proud at the 2026 World Cup," he told Asaase Radio.
"We have had a meeting and the vision of the President [John Mahama] is not different from the Sports Minister [Kofi Adams], and it is not different from Otto Addo and his technical team.
"We have soldiers going to war, and we aim to win the battle. We must win against any opposition, and my mission is to lead Ghana and, with the support of Ghanaians, to the World Cup and bring glory to Ghana," Mr Okraku added.
The Black Stars will kick off their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27 to conclude the group stage.
In preparation for the tournament, head coach Otto Addo is expected to lead the squad in a March training camp, including international friendlies against Austria and Germany.
Ghana will be aiming to surpass their previous World Cup performances, having exited in the group stages in 2014 and 2022. The team will look to replicate the historic run to the quarterfinals achieved at the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
