Ghana Football Association president Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has described the new sponsorship agreement between Gold Fields Ghana Limited and the GFA as a historic moment for Ghana football.

Gold Fields Ghana announced a sponsorship package worth US$5 million over two years on Friday, becoming an Official Partner of Ghana football.

The partnership will support the Black Stars, Black Queens, the Women’s Premier League and the Black Challenge national amputee football team.

Speaking at the launch ceremony in Accra, Simeon-Okraku said the agreement goes beyond financial support and represents a renewed commitment to football development in the country.

“Today is not merely the signing of a sponsorship agreement. It is the renewal of a historic relationship built on belief, vision, patriotism, and commitment to the growth of Ghanaian football,” he said.

The GFA president also reflected on Gold Fields Ghana’s support for the Black Stars more than two decades ago during Ghana’s journey toward qualification for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

“That support formed part of the foundation that propelled Ghana towards one of the proudest moments in our sporting history, our maiden qualification to the FIFA Men’s World Cup in Germany in 2006,” he stated.

Simeon-Okraku added that the sponsorship sends a strong message about development, inclusion and the importance of investing in sports across the country.
