The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has commended Ghanaian football supporters for their crucial role in the Black Stars’ qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana endured a challenging start to the qualifying campaign but ultimately secured a place at the tournament, which will be staged across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Adams acknowledged initial difficulties following the change in government but said the return of strong fan support helped revive the team’s fortunes.

“Before Mahama came into office, there was a disconnect between the fans and the team, but suddenly things took a different turn, and we saw fans at the stadia,” he said.

He added: “I thank the 12th man, the fans, for their support because without them, it would have been difficult, and since then, it has been a good story after another.”

Ghana, preparing for their fifth World Cup appearance, have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.

After early exits in the 2014 and 2022 tournaments, expectations are growing for a stronger performance this time. Newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz is tasked with leading the four-time African champions beyond the group stage for the first time since 2010.
