PSG and Bayern set Champions League record

Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich produced one of the most remarkable matches in UEFA Champions League history in a dramatic semi-final first leg at the Parc des Princes.

The contest saw five goals scored in the opening 45 minutes, the most ever in a Champions League semi-final since the competition’s current format began in 1992/93. It also finished as the highest-scoring semi-final match in the competition’s history.

Harry Kane opened the scoring for Bayern Munich in the 17th minute from the penalty spot after Luis Díaz was fouled by PSG defender Willian Pacho.

PSG responded quickly, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia curling in the equaliser before João Neves headed the hosts into the lead.

Bayern struck back through Michael Olise to make it 2–2, but PSG regained control before the break when Ousmane Dembélé converted a stoppage-time penalty following a VAR review.

The second half maintained the intensity as Kvaratskhelia added his second and Dembélé completed a brace to put PSG 5–2 ahead. Bayern responded through Dayot Upamecano and Díaz, reducing the deficit to 5–4 and keeping the tie alive.

The result leaves the semi-final finely balanced ahead of the second leg in Munich, with the winner set to face either Arsenal or Atlético Madrid in the final in Budapest at the end of May.
