Asante Kotoko in crisis talks as coach Zito's future hangs in balance
· GhanaSoccernetAsante Kotoko Sporting Club is in the midst of a high-level emergency meeting to determine the future of head coach Abdul Karim Zito.
The meeting, held at the club's secretariat, was attended by key figures including Technical Director Malik Jabir, Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua, and IMC member Kwesi Appiah, underscoring the severity of the situation.
The meeting comes on the heels of a series of disappointing results that have cast doubt over Zito's tenure.
After breaking a four-match winless run with three consecutive victories, the club has now failed to win its last two games, suffering a loss and a draw. This inconsistency has left the Porcupine Warriors in fourth place with 31 points after 18 matches, a significant six points adrift of league leaders Medeama SC.
According to sources close to the developments, the club is actively considering potential successors. The primary candidate is Ignatius Osei-Fosu, the current assistant manager of the Sudan national team. Osei-Fosu is reportedly in line to take over on an interim basis until the end of the season if the decision is made to relieve Zito of his duties.
This potential change in leadership marks a critical juncture for Kotoko as they seek to salvage their campaign and mount a serious challenge for the Ghana Premier League title. The outcome of the emergency meeting is expected to be made public in the coming days.
