Give Black Stars management and technical team some peace – President Mahama

· GhanaSoccernet

President John Mahama has appealed to Ghanaians to allow the Black Stars’ management and technical team to work in peace as preparations begin for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking to Sporty FM after Ghana qualified for the tournament, Mahama praised Otto Addo and his backroom staff for guiding the team to a fifth World Cup appearance, urging supporters to show trust and patience.

There have been ongoing discussions about the future of Otto Addo, with some questioning his ability to lead the team effectively. His second stint in charge began with disappointment after Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, but he has since redeemed himself by securing a place at the 2026 World Cup. Still, doubts remain among sections of the fan base, given the team’s occasional struggles to assert dominance in matches.

"Let’s give the management and technical team some peace. I know we are 33 million coaches in Ghana, but please, let’s keep our coaching to ourselves and let the coaches and the managers handle the team without distracting them," President Mahama said.

He acknowledged Ghanaians’ deep passion for football but cautioned that persistent public criticism and unsolicited advice can disrupt team focus and morale.

The President’s comments followed Ghana’s 1-0 victory over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium, a result that confirmed qualification for the 2026 World Cup to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Ghana will learn their group opponents on December 5, 2025, when the World Cup draw is held in Washington, D.C.
