I always enjoy playing Kotoko in Kumasi – Samartex coach Christopher Ennin after win

Samartex coach Christopher Ennin says he always enjoy playing Asante Kotoko at their favorite home ground, Baba Yara Stadium, following his sides' victory in matchday 28 of the Ghana Premier League.

The Timber Giants ended their seven games winless run in the Ghanaian top-flight with a 2-1 victory over the Porcupine Warriors on Tuesday morning.

The fixture had initially been abandoned due to heavy rain with the score at 0-0, but upon resumption, Samartex took control of proceedings. Goals from Christian Agyenim Boateng and Emmanuel Essien were enough for the visitors to secure maximum points.

The hosts managed to reduce the deficit late on through Albert Amoah, but it proved only a consolation as Samartex held on for all three points.

“I always enjoy playing against Kotoko in Kumasi. I remember beating them ten players during my days with Berekum Chelsea. I know how to frustrate Kotoko and make them play to our rhythm. We forced them to adapt to our strengths, and it led to the goal. I’ve studied the team closely — for me, it’s all about tactical discipline.” He at the post-match conference.

For Samartex, the win lifts them to sixth place, strengthening their push for a top-four finish as the season heads into its final stretch.

The result has significant implications for the league standings. Kotoko remain fourth on 43 points after 28 matches, missing the chance to close the gap on leaders Bibiani Gold Stars, while Medeama SC and Hearts of Oak occupy second and third respectively.
