Frederick Asare unfazed by World Cup snub, backs Ghana goalkeepers
· GhanaSoccernetFormer Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare has expressed no disappointment over his omission from Ghana's squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stating that the players selected deserved their places in the team.
The goalkeeper, who featured four times for Durban City FC in South Africa during the 2025/26 season, said he fully respects the decisions made regarding the Black Stars squad.
Speaking in an interview with Nhyira FM, Asare admitted that missing out on the prestigious tournament did not trouble him.
"I wasn't worried about missing the World Cup call-up because I feel those who got in deserve it more," he said.
His remarks come at a time when competition for places in the national team remains intense, particularly among goalkeepers, with several players vying for opportunities in the Black Stars setup.
Asare also spoke highly of Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who has emerged as one of the country's leading shot-stoppers.
"Benjamin Asare's strengths are his aerial ability and calmness in post," he noted.
Despite failing to secure a place in Ghana's World Cup squad, Frederick Asare remains optimistic about his international prospects.
The former Kotoko goalkeeper stressed the importance of patience, dedication and consistent performances at club level.
He believes that continued hard work will eventually earn him another opportunity with the national team as he seeks to force his way back into contention for future assignments with the Black Stars.
