2026 World Cup: I am not nervous about Black Stars chances, says Kofi Adams

Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed confidence in the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting he is not under pressure despite growing expectations on the team.

Ghana will feature at the global showpiece for the fifth time when the tournament kicks off this summer in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L, where they will face England, Croatia, and Panama in what is widely considered a challenging group.

Ahead of the tournament, Adams has tasked newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz with guiding Ghana to at least the semi-finals, but he maintains he remains calm and focused on the process.

“I am doing everything possible to ensure that we do things the right way. I am not nervous, but I am rather calculated in doing things, and if I am convinced about what I am doing, nothing stops me," Mr Adams told Asempa FM.

“Pressure will come, but I will not let it consume me as a Sports Minister," he added.

Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.

After disappointing early exits in both the 2014 and 2022 editions, hopes are high that the Black Stars—now under Queiroz—can mount a stronger and more competitive run in North America.
