Bibiani Gold Stars captain Samuel Atta Kumi was named Man of the Match after scoring twice to inspire his side to a 2-1 victory over Bechem United in their opening Ghana Premier League fixture at Dun’s Park.

The defending champions made an explosive start in front of their home fans, with Atta Kumi converting a penalty in the third minute to settle early nerves. The skipper doubled his tally in the 22nd minute, finishing off a swift attacking move to put the Miners firmly in control.

Bechem United, however, hit back almost immediately through Dalvin Yeboah, who capitalised on a lapse in concentration to reduce the deficit in the 23rd minute. The visitors pushed for an equaliser, but the hosts stood firm, with Atta Kumi’s early brace ultimately proving decisive.

Gold Stars, who lifted their first-ever league title last season, will now turn their attention to continental duty as they prepare to face Algerian giants JS Kabylie in the CAF Champions League.
