Chief Imam orders special Friday prayers for Black Stars ahead of World Cup
· GhanaSoccernetThe National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has directed that every Friday leading up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup be dedicated to special prayers for the Black Stars, according to his spokesperson, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu.
Speaking in a video shared by Citi Sports, Sheikh Shaibu revealed that the Chief Imam has instructed regional, district, and community imams to lead the prayers in support of Ghana's national team as they prepare for the tournament in North America.
"The Chief Imam has instructed that, as the World Cup approaches, he will dedicate every Friday to special prayers led by regional, district, and community imams to support the Black Stars," Sheikh Shaibu said.
The initiative reflects the chief imam's commitment to rallying spiritual support for the Black Stars, who are aiming to make a strong impression at the World Cup.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama, and will open their campaign against Panama on June 17.
The gesture adds to the growing wave of national support for the team as they finalise preparations under head coach Carlos Queiroz.
