"The Ghana Premier League is one of the best in Africa"- GHALCA president John Ansah
· GhanaSoccernetPresident of the Ghana League Clubs Association of Ghana, John Ansah, believes the domestic topflight league is one of the best in Africa despite struggles by home-based players to break into the national team.
Ghanaians have been left divided over the neglect of Ghana Premier League stars from the Black Stars, with only Benjamin Asare making the team in recent times.
Following the appointment of Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars, there have been calls for a quota to be made available for players plying their trade in Ghana.
"If I recollect, 2022, we had one player from Kotoko and another from Kotoko who were fully local based players. During the qualification, you will realise there were some who were given the opportunity leading to the qualification to the 2026 World Cup. We have few months now to go to the World Cup, a new coach has been appointed and I don't know much about his plans," he told Citi Sports.
"But I am of the view that he might consider doing same or even more," he added.
The astute administrator was also quick to reject the tag that the Ghana Premier League is a poor competition.
"The local league sometimes we complain about not being the best, if you look around us in this continent, we are among one of the best and so I think there is so much room for improvement," he continued.
Meanwhile, Queiroz watched the Black Galaxies, the home-based national team, play against Heart of Lions and Aduana Stars in friendly matches.
