Kotoko announce Prince Yaw Owusu as interim coach after Karim Zito’s resignation
· GhanaSoccernetAsante Kotoko have appointed Prince Yaw Owusu as interim head coach ahead of their Ghana Premier League clash against rivals Hearts of Oak, following the resignation of Karim Zito.
The club confirmed that Owusu, who previously served as assistant coach, will take temporary charge of the team after Zito stepped down on Monday, bringing an end to his seven-month spell as substantive head coach.
Zito had earlier enjoyed success during an interim stint, guiding Kotoko to win the MTN FA Cup, but results dipped after his confirmation, with inconsistent performances increasing pressure on the technical bench.
Zito’s resignation came just days before the high-profile encounter with Hearts of Oak, prompting the club to act swiftly to ensure stability. In a statement on their official X page, Asante Kotoko announced that Prince Yaw Owusu would lead the technical team on an interim basis, assisted by Mohammed Hamza Obeng.
Hamza Obeng, a former Hearts of Oak assistant coach who joined Kotoko before the start of the season, will support Owusu as the team prepares for the fixture at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The duo will be tasked with producing a tactical display similar to, or better than, the first meeting between the sides this season, which Kotoko won 1-0 in Accra.
Kotoko are expected to outline their longer-term technical plans after the match.
