Ex-Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan tips Germany to win 2026 World Cup
· GhanaSoccernetGhana football legend Asamoah Gyan has backed a blockbuster final between Argentina and Germany at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, predicting the Europeans will ultimately lift the trophy.
In an interview with One Football, the former Black Stars captain tipped Germany’s experience and winning pedigree to prove decisive on football’s grandest stage.
"Argentina and Germany are my picks for the World Cup final, and Germany to win," Gyan said, expressing confidence in the four-time champions to reclaim global supremacy.
Despite favouring two of the game’s traditional powerhouses, Gyan struck a hopeful tone when discussing Ghana national football team, insisting the Black Stars have the potential to exceed expectations at the expanded tournament.
The former striker, who remains Africa’s all-time leading World Cup scorer, believes Ghana could emerge as one of the competition’s surprise packages when the tournament kicks off across North America.
Gyan also weighed in on the race for the Golden Boot, naming Kylian Mbappé as his favourite to finish as top scorer.
The French forward is expected to once again lead the line for the France national football team.
"Ghana will be the dark horse of the tournament, and Kylian Mbappé will be the top scorer,” he added.
The 2026 World Cup, set to be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico, will be the largest in the competition’s history.
Gyan’s early predictions add intrigue to the build-up, blending confidence in football’s elite nations with belief in Ghana’s capacity to challenge the established order.
