We need to maintain core of Black Stars players for success – Daniel Opare
· GhanaSoccernetFormer Ghana international Daniel Opare has urged stability and continuity in Black Stars squad selection for success as the team gears up for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament to be staged in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The former Real Madrid defender in an interview with JoySports asserted that while Black Stars can boast of immense individual talent, the lack of continuity in squad selection has hindered the development of a strong and cohesive unit.
“We have incredible talent in the team—fantastic players—but I believe we need to focus on building a proper team,” Opare said. “Sometimes you can have talent without having a team.”
According to him, frequent changes to the squad disrupt chemistry and make it difficult for players to fully understand each other on the pitch.
“One key thing is that we must keep these players together for a long time. Of course, changes can be made in cases like injuries, where others who deserve the opportunity can step in,” he explained.
“But if we keep changing players the way we change our clothes, it won’t help. Every time that happens, we break the team instead of building cohesion,”
“We need to maintain the core, support and encourage them, and give them time to grow together. That’s the only way we can truly build a strong team,” he said.
The West African football heavyweights are set for their fifth World Cup participation, after securing one of Africa’s nine automatic slots for the global showpiece.
