Michael Essien urges Ghanaians to protect Mohammed Kudus
· GhanaSoccernetMichael Essien has called on Ghanaians to rally behind Mohammed Kudus, describing the attacker as the country’s star.
The former Chelsea star emphasized that Kudus has proven himself on football’s biggest stages and has firmly established his class.
He was referring to the Tottenham man’s performances at the 2022 World Cup.
“If I start talking about him [Kudus], we won't finish! I think he has showcased himself to the football world. He’s one of the biggest talents, and for Ghana, he's our star. We have to protect him and give him all the love and confidence he needs,” he told FIFA.com.
Kudus, 25, began his Tottenham Hotspur career with promising performances that drew attention across Europe.
However, his rise was interrupted by a serious thigh/hamstring injury sustained against Sunderland on January 4, 2026. The setback kept him sidelined, raising concerns about his ability to return to peak form.
The former West Ham midfielder is reportedly back in training and could return to the Spurs squad this weekend or the following one.
