Dr Nyaho Tamakloe backs strategic coaching appointment to revive Black Stars ahead of 2026 World Cup
· GhanaSoccernetFormer Ghana Football Association (GFA) chairman, Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, believes the Black Stars can return to their former strength if the right head coach is appointed to succeed Otto Addo.
The GFA is currently searching for a new leader for the senior national team following Addo’s dismissal after Ghana suffered consecutive defeats to Austria and Germany in March international friendlies.
Addo, a former Borussia Dortmund talent coach, lost his position after a disappointing run that raised concerns about the team’s preparedness ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Several high-profile names, including former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah, 2014 World Cup-winning tactician Joachim Löw, and South African coach Pitso Mosimane, have all been linked to the vacant role.
Speaking to Graphic Sports, Dr Nyaho Tamakloe expressed confidence that the right managerial choice could stabilize the team, even if a temporary solution is required.
He suggested the possibility of appointing an interim coach to guide the team through the World Cup, followed by a more permanent appointment afterward, stressing the need for firm and decisive leadership over emotional decisions.
“With the right appointment, Ghana can rebuild a strong and competitive Black Stars side,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, the GFA is expected to announce a new head coach in the coming days, ahead of the Black Stars’ May camp, which includes friendly matches against Mexico and Wales.
Ghana has been drawn in Group L for the World Cup, where they will face Panama, England, and Croatia.
