U-17 AFCON: Prosper Narteh Ogum calls for calm and belief as Black Starlets gear up for opener against Algeria
· GhanaSoccernetBlack Starlets head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has urged his players to remain composed and embrace the pressure that comes with representing the nation as they prepare for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ghana has been housed in Group D alongside Algeria, Senegal and South Africa.
Speaking to CAFOnline, Narteh Ogum stressed the importance of mental strength and discipline, noting that external expectations should not become a burden for his young squad.
"We constantly remind the players to stay calm and focus on the process rather than the pressure outside. Playing for Ghana always comes with expectations, but we encourage them to see it as motivation instead of fear," he said.
The former Kotoko coach also highlighted the ongoing effort to build unity and confidence within the team, insisting that success will depend on collective commitment rather than individual talent.
"We are building confidence within the team and helping the players understand that discipline, teamwork and belief are the keys to success."
The Black Starlets will open their campaign tonight against Algeria at the Mohammed VI Football Academy. Kick off for the game is scheduled at 19:00 GMT.
Ghana heads into the tournament with renewed hopes of making a strong impression on the continental stage, as the young squad looks to translate its preparation into results against Africa’s best youth sides.
Ghana will be aiming not only for success at the AFCON but also for qualification to the FIFA U17 World Cup later this year.
