South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has indicated that he is settled on his plan for their opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Mexico.

The Bafana Bafana are set to face the co-hosts on Thursday, June 11, in the official opening match of this year’s edition of the global showpiece.

Speaking in his pre-match interview, Hugo Broos sounded confident in his team, stressing that the Bafana Bafana know what they must do against Mexico to secure a good result.

"We know what to do against Mexico. We know what to do when they have the ball and when we have possession. The final details will be worked on in our next two training sessions. Everything is focused on this game.

"They are all dangerous, they are a very good team with much movement and solidarity. You can see they really want to be world champions.

"You can see that with the way they play. We will have to be at our best level if we want to get a result,” Broos said.

The opening Group A match on Thursday will be a repeat of the 2010 World Cup opening match in South Africa.

That game ended 1-1, but the Bafana Bafana failed to advance from their group.

With Broo at the helm of affairs, the veteran tactician is aiming to change the narrative.
