Football Association of Wales welcomes new partnership with Ghana as global growth opportunity
· GhanaSoccernetThe Football Association of Wales (FAW) has expressed strong excitement about its newly formalised partnership with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), describing the agreement as a major step in its expanding international development agenda.
The collaboration was confirmed after Welsh officials hosted a delegation from the GFA at FAW headquarters in Hensol for discussions centred on coach education and future football exchange programmes.
FAW CEO Noel Mooney hailed the agreement as a valuable opportunity to broaden the organisation’s global presence and football learning network. According to Mooney, Wales is increasingly committed to sharing its technical advances and coaching methodologies with other football nations, believing that collective progress strengthens the global game. "Collaborations like this create valuable opportunities to exchange ideas and support the continued growth and development of football across the world," Mooney said.
Dr David Adams, FAW Chief Football Officer, also praised the initiative, noting that it reflects the FAW’s rising reputation internationally. He claimed that the partnership provides a platform for Welsh youth and senior teams to benefit from exposure to a different footballing culture, adding important diversity and challenge to their development pathway.
Adams expressed confidence that Ghana’s football pedigree — particularly in developing elite athletes in Europe and beyond- makes them a highly valuable partner. He added that knowledge exchange between coaching teams will be mutually enriching, especially as Wales aims to maintain its momentum in qualifying for major international competitions.
The FAW believes this collaboration will inspire fresh learning while strengthening cultural and sporting ties between Europe and Africa. As preparations for implementation begin, Welsh officials remain committed to making the partnership a long-term driver of growth and a strong football identity for both countries.
