GFA boss Kurt Okraku hails Asamoah Gyan’s impact on Ghana football
· GhanaSoccernetGhana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku has described Asamoah Gyan as one of the country’s greatest football icons following his unveiling as ambassador for Ghana’s national teams and Colts football.
Speaking at the ceremony held at the Pelican Hotel in Accra, the GFA president praised Gyan’s contribution to Ghana football over the past two decades.
“For nearly two decades, he carried the hopes, dreams, expectations and emotions of millions of Ghanaians on his shoulders,” Okraku said.
He also praised Gyan’s record as Ghana’s all-time top scorer and Africa’s leading scorer at the FIFA World Cup.
“To this day, Asamoah Gyan remains Ghana’s all-time leading scorer and Africa’s highest scorer at the World Cup - a record that speaks not merely to greatness, but to consistency, longevity and unwavering commitment to country,” he added.
Okraku recalled Gyan’s historic goal against the Czech Republic at the 2006 FIFA World Cup and his leadership during Ghana’s memorable 2010 campaign in South Africa.
“We are embracing legacy. We are institutionalising inspiration. We are reconnecting our future with one of the greatest symbols of our football heritage,” he stated.
