World Cup 2026: Why Adjetey, Nuamah, Senaya, Opoku and Yirenkyi have special stickers on their jerseys
· GhanaSoccernetFive of Ghana's starters in the opening game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup had special stickers on their jerseys for the match against Panama.
The newest innovation is an emblem on the jerseys of players making their debut at the tournament. FIFA announced the latest addition just before the start of the World Cup.
For Ghana, Jonas Adjetey, Ernest Nuamah, Marvin Senaya, Jerome Opoku and Caleb Yirenkyi, were all spotted with the tiny sticker at the right side of their shirt as they walked on to the pitch to make their first ever World Cup appearance.
Also nine other players on Ghana's bench, including second half substitute Benjamin Asare had the sticker on their jerseys.
Ghana travelled to the tournament with 14 debutants following injuries to some of their key players, including Tottenham Hotspur's Mohammed Kudus.
The Black Stars will be hoping to get a positive result in their opening game after England defeated Croatia earlier in Group L's first match.
The West Africans are making their fifth World Cup appearance and will be hoping to make it beyond the group stage following their failure to make it past the first stage in 2014 and 2022.
